On 1 May 2010, the Shanghai world expo opens. The date will mark the start of the massive six-month-long event that will smash all past expo and world’s fair records. Here are some of the latest reports out of China on how the host nation will mark its presence at Expo 2010, and how it will ensure all goes smoothly as the anticipation builds and the excitement grows.

Big Expo, Large Exhibits

The world’s largest reproduction of the Mona Lisa takes pride of place on the exterior wall of the Shenzhen pavilion. The oil painting measures 300 sq. metres, composed of hundreds of 30cm x 20 cm pieces put together by 999 painters.

The skeletons of two Jurassic period dinosaurs will grace the Yunnan Province pavilion. The 6.4m x 2.5m Lufengosaurus huenei and the 10 m x 4 m Lufengosaurus magnus were unearthed in 1997. They are reported as two of China’s biggest dinosaur fossil finds.
